He did not understand what happened. Again. He never seemed to quite understand what happened. Though he tried to move without much notice and meekly stay out of the way, life and the world always seemed to find ways to upend him, to torment him, to humiliate him, and just then, inexorably, to kill him. Ogden learned at an early age that he could only rely on himself, his parents, and then later, Renawa, his Amnan. Life and the world had at long last discovered a way to wrest those battlements from him, and conspired to leave him with naught but agony and cost, and oblivion.
